We love the 2014 Honda Civic here at West Michigan Honda Dealers, and the fact that it’s one of the safest coupes of 2014 is certainly one of the many reasons we’re fans of this sporty little car. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has granted the 2014 Civic Coupe their Top Safety Pick status, marking it as one of the safest vehicles on the road, but what goes into winning Top Safety Pick?
We’re glad you asked.
How to Become a Top Safety Pick
While many of Honda’d vehicles have earned the coveted Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ award, not too many drivers know just what goes into these awards. So we thought it would be a great time to celebrate the safety of the Civic Coupe by looking into just how it earned its distinction.
There are five different tests administered by the IIHS:
- Small Overlap Front
- Moderate Overlap Front
- Side Impact
- Roof Strength Test
- Head Restraints and Seats
In order to achieve a Top Safety Pick designation, a vehicle must earn a ranking of “good,” the highest the IIHS offers, in all but the new Small Overlap Front test, which must earn an “acceptable” or higher. Honda isn’t one to settle for just passing a safety test, though, and you had better believe that the 2014 Civic earned top marks in each of these five categories, bringing home the Top Safety Pick award with pride.
With standard safety enhancing features like Bluetooth for handsfree calls and a rearview camera for easy backing up and parking, it’s clear that even the entry-level Civic Coupe LX is a great bet for West Michigan drivers.
