2015-Honda-AccordWhile the 2015 Kia Optima has certainly come a long way, we think that the 2015 Honda Accord’s fuel economy alone makes it a smarter choice for our West Michigan
drivers. Fuel economy is one of the most important factors in buying a practical new sedan, but there’s so much more to the 2015 Accord than just how efficient it is. Let’s take a look at what separates these two sedans.

Building an Efficient Sedan

It’s not too hard for an automaker to build a powerful sedan, but making it a fuel-efficient model is another story entirely. The 2015 Honda Accord LX with CVT earns an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 36 mpg on the highway and 27 mpg in the city for a 31 mpg combined rating.*

The Kia Optima, on the other hand, only manages 34 highway mpg and 23 city mpg, bringing its combined fuel economy down to 27 mpg. That’s a big enough difference that the savings of the 2015 Accord will pile up quickly.

Honda’s Standard Features Package

The 2015 Honda Accord’s fuel economy isn’t all that matters; after all, this is one of the best-equipped sedans available today. Take a look at the long list of standard features that are either unavailable or require an upgrade on the Optima:

  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Rearview camera with guidelines
  • Touchscreen infotainment system
  • SMS texting capabilities
  • Pandora internet radio
  • Floor mats

The Optima does have many features like these available, though the Accord’s infotainment system is the Honda-exclusive i-MID, but the fact that the entry-level Optima doesn’t even include floor mats as standard speaks volumes about the car.

Features and fuel economy are two of the biggest demands of modern mid-size sedans, and it seems pretty clear to us that the Accord has the edge. What do you think?
