The Honda global safety philosophy is to deliver “Safety For Everyone,” and we’re proud to say that our safety commitment has won some of our 2021 Honda cars the top safety awards and ratings.

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Picks

The IIHS runs a series of tests to pick their top safety picks. These tests evaluate two aspects of safety: crashworthiness, how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash, then crash avoidance and mitigation, which looks at the technology that can prevent a crash or lessen its severity. The 2021 IIHS Top Safety Picks are:

  • 2021 Honda Accord
  • 2021 Honda Odyssey

These Honda models received the top ratings for both the crashworthiness and crash avoidance & mitigation categories. The top rating for crashworthiness is Good, which looks at a small overlap front for driver-side and passenger side, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, head restraints, and seats. The top rating for crash avoidance & mitigation is Superior, which looks at front crash prevention for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian.

National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) 5-Star Ratings For All Categories

The NHTSA tests frontal crash, side crash, and rollover crash capability. Then they will award a rating of between 1 and 5 stars for each category and provide an overall safety rating. The following 2021 Honda cars received an overall rating of 5 in all four categories. Still, most of our 2021 Honda models were awarded five stars in the overall safety category:

  • 2021 Honda Insight*
  • 2021 Honda Civic*
  • 2021 Honda Civic Hatchback*
  • 2021 Honda Accord*
  • 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid*

U.S. News and World’s Report Best Cars for 2021
